Projection Mapping
2024
This innovative project explores the intersection of historical artistry and cutting-edge technology through projection mapping. At its core is a 3D-printed statue of a legendary samurai figure, serving as a dynamic canvas for an intricate visual narrative. By projecting high-resolution scans of traditional Japanese kimonos onto the statue, the installation brings together centuries-old craftsmanship and contemporary digital expression. The creative process began with the meticulous 3D modeling and printing of the statue, ensuring precision in form and detail. To enhance the immersive experience, advanced projection mapping software was employed to seamlessly align the scanned kimono textures with the contours of the statue, creating a striking interplay of light, texture, and movement. The evolving projection setup incorporated thoughtful environmental elements—miniature structures, strategic backdrops, and refined lighting techniques—to further elevate the visual storytelling. The outcome is a mesmerizing motion piece that reimagines the statue across four distinct scenes: a futuristic cityscape, a serene cherry blossom setting, a rain-soaked moment near a passing train, and a haunting, atmospheric finale. This dynamic showcase not only highlights the adaptability of projection mapping but also redefines how historical and cultural narratives can be experienced in modern digital art. Through this project, the boundaries between tradition and technology are blurred, offering a fresh perspective on cultural heritage while pushing the limits of immersive storytelling.
