This project is an artistic exploration of Japanese kimono patterns through scanography, capturing intricate details that often go unnoticed. By pressing fabric against a high-resolution scanner, every thread, weave, and imperfection becomes visible, transforming textiles into immersive compositions of colour and texture. Each scan reveals a silent narrative—stories woven into silk and cotton, symbols of heritage passed down through generations. A faded embroidery may hint at a once-vibrant festival, while a delicate floral motif speaks of changing seasons and fleeting beauty. Through this process, traditional craftsmanship is reimagined, not just as fashion, but as a canvas of personal and cultural identity. By blending high-resolution scanning with artistic framing, this project bridges the past and present, allowing viewers to engage with kimonos in an intimate, almost tactile way. It’s a visual meditation on the hidden artistry within fabric, where history and aesthetics converge in unexpected ways.
